Working with Young People

Passionately supporting the UK Electronics Industry

Our customers tell us that recruiting and retaining skilled staff is one of the major challenges faced by the industry today. We are really proud of the work we are doing with education and other partners to help inspire young people to choose a career in engineering.

In our Youth Development Programme we aim to reach youngsters of all ages by working with schools, universities and apprenticeship schemes. We also take part in the nation’s largest skills and careers event, UK Skills show.

We encourage youngsters into the industry by offering work experience places through local schools here in Hertfordshire. We also sponsor up to ten young people each year to take part in Head Start, a programme that gives year 12 students a taster of university life.

My work experience week has focused me towards electrical and electronic engineering. Phil's offered to stay in contact after this week, which is something that no one at our school will get from their work experience. It was fantastic!

At Premier, there are a small number of apprentice schemes running. These schemes provide structured training and work experience for youngsters already in industry. We sponsor the UK Skills show and provide training for competing apprentices. They showcase their electronic engineering skills as part of a regional, national and international programme.

The training course we received from Premier was excellent. The software, Altium Designer is fantastic and easy to use which will help me during the competition stages!

We work closely with a number of UK universities, giving undergraduates the chance to practice their design skills with Altium Designer.

Our relationship extends past the provision of software. Senior and executive staff at Premier are members of the Industrial Advisory Panels at Universities of Manchester and Hertfordshire. This includes influencing development of courses and ensuring students graduate with skills the industry requires. We sponsor a number of student projects, teaching labs, research projects and post-graduate conferences.
